Celebrate Safely on the 4th!

Not to be a buzz kill, but a little awareness can go a long way to ensuring you have a happy, fun, and safe holiday weekend.
The National Safety Council warns that there are approximately 380 deaths and 40,000+ injuries resulting from car accidents, swimming incidents and fireworks on the 4th of July. Nearly 12,000 injuries from fireworks alone.
July 5 also ranks up there with an average of 110 deaths, but this weekend will likely be a high incident period because the holiday itself is on a Monday.
This big summer holiday sends a lot of drivers to the roadways, which increases the likelihood of serious accidents. The holiday also results in an increase in "risky" driving, including drunk driving. 41% of deaths on the 4th of July involve high blood alcohol content.
The most common fireworks related injuries were to hands and fingers, followed by head, face, ears and eye injuries.
Long story short, have a great weekend celebrating and be safe out there, and, as I tell my daughter every morning, "Make good choices."
